Sister please do come, please it’s over please come I will give you lollipop. Come out of that Ghost Room.” - small unbroken words of child spoke at age of 9 At the age of Nine, I played Hide and seek game with my sister for seven days. Have you ever played such a long hide and seek game? In these seven days my sister hid and every day I beg her to come out of her room and fall asleep while calling for her. On those days, I cried with my parents and brought lollipop for my sister to make her happy to come out of room every day. But, she didn’t come out for seven days. I don’t know how she stayed in that room with closed windows and doors. She didn’t even come out to use the toilet or to drink water. You know, my sister and I used to call that room as Ghost Room because it was so dark even when the windows were open. Now, imagine how my sister remained there with her fears. Sometimes, I used to hear her sounds like “Mother, Please come I need you. I am in pain.” But that time usually mother used to be out of the house and I wasn’t allowed to enter. I don’t know why she was calling; it may be because of the ghost in that room or she might have felt scared. One day, again I heard sound like “Mother, Mother, Mother, Please come fast soon fast, I am in pain” .Then I went to the room because my sister was calling for my mother but mother wasn’t at the house. I saw my sister with some red colored liquid at the leg. I said “Sister, why are you eating this, Why are you not giving it to me? Are you hungry?, Eat my lollipop too. Then Mother came and scolded my sister and said many things. I hardly remember what happened after this because after mother scolded my sister I cried very loudly so that I didn’t hear any sounds. This Hide and seek was not only mysterious for me because after this also my sister once in the month used to play ‘Touch me Not’ game. This game was also similar as I wasn’t allowed to touch my sister for four days. However, these games were never fun to play during of childhood. Now, today I am 19 and I know this. Why these mysterious Long Hide and Seek game and Monthly Touch Me Not game was played with me by my sister. This is because menstruation taboo exists in Nepalese Society where females are regarded as untouchable during menstruation . Today, I don’t follow such taboos in my family because taboos are created by society but I want to take care of my sister. So, No more menstruation taboos in between our sister-brother bond. Happy Menstruation Cycle, I wish my sister every month and celebrate it with nutritious food for her health care. #RespectMenstruationasNaturalProcess
