God’s masterplan for me included pain and sufferings and amidst it I try to find happiness. Life is unprecedented; I had never thought that it would turn out like this. Even in my worst nightmares, I hadn’t seen the events that would follow that particular day of the month of Asar when I was seven years old. Around 3o’ clock that afternoon, I could feel a painful sensation in my stomach. The pain only aggravated by 7 in the evening. My parents, who could not stand looking at me in such pain called for a doctor at 8’o clock that very night. The doctor examined me and prescribed me some medicines to ease my pain. However, the medicines had little effect on me. My beloved family, anxious and worried in their hearts spent a sleepless night.

My condition showed no signs of improvement. The pain did not cease. Upon the advise of the doctor, I was to be taken to the capital city, Kathmandu. Unaware of the country wide bandh (strike) that day, my sister and my aunt carried me till the place named bahun besi. Me and my sister took the bus that was parked there and destined to Kathmandu and arrived in the capital city at around 3 o’clock that very day. My sister immediately took me to Kanti Children Hospital. The doctor there examined me and conducted a video x-ray on me. I had appendicitis but the appendix had burst open during my travel and hence could not be seen in the x-ray. My condition was complicated and I was kept under a strict observation in the I.C.U for a period of 25 days. Then only was I operated.

After 3 operations and completing 3 months long stay at the hospital, me and my sister were ecstatic to return home. But our happiness was short lived. A few days after our arrival, another storm blew into my family. My mother fractured her hand. When we thought things were getting back on track, another was awaiting us at our doorsteps. My father, who had been battling with mental problems since 9 years back, suffered from it yet again. He was immediately taken to Kathmandu that very day. That was the last time I saw my father. He passed away the next morning at 8’o clock.

My family lost it’s last male member. I had a brother who had passed away at the tender age of 4 due to reasons unknown. The loss of my father was grave. He left a big, gaping hole not only in our hearts but we lost the bread winner of our family. My mother was left to tend after three daughters on her own. Despite all the sufferings and hardships, she has managed to educate her children and send us to school. God has placed a lot of grief and sorrows on our side nonetheless, given us more than our share of sorrows, grief and hardships.

Since last year, a new ray of hope arrived in my life in the name of Visible Impact. A group of young dedicated brothers and sisters come and train us in various aspects of our life and have been providing us life skills. These skills have let us become more confident, willing to be leaders in our community. We feel like there is someone to listen to us and have strengthened our voices. I get excited everytime we 15 girls meet because there is so much to learn and transform. I am hopeful and looking forward to this program unleashing the better person in us.
