"We strongly condemn the death of menstruating girl in Chaupadi shed"

Visible Impact strongly condemns the recent death of Roshani Tiruwa, aged 15 years, of Achham district due to suffocation while staying at Chapaudi hut. Roshani, like many other girls and women of the region stayed in hut because she was menstruating.
Though the Supreme Court banned Chaupadi in 2005, this inhuman act is still practiced in far western region of Nepal, and almost everywhere else in the country in other forms. This is a rebukable act, not tolerable in any case, and cannot be backed up by the rationale of culture or tradition.
We, at Visible Impact, urge the Government to take strong action against Chaupadi tradition, and other discrimination related to menstrual health and safety urgently. Visible Impact has been conducting advocacy campaign named "No Shame to Bleed" with similar objective, and we urge all the like minded people to be with us. It is the responsibility of the Government to ensure punishment to the perpretators, but is equally the responsibility of all the citizen.
