Youth & Society: Creating Change, One Step at a Time

By Barsa Shrestha

The phrase “youth are the future” is commonly used. However, it is essential that young people both the present and the future. Across the world, youth are engaging in and actively shaping societies through community work, advocacy campaigns, digital mobilization and honest, sometimes difficult conversation.

The Power of Being Young

Youthfulness is not a weakness but a strength. Youth bring new energy, unique ideas, and ways of thinking. We’re not scared to challenge conventional thinking and are not afraid to come up with innovative and better solutions.

Young people are concerned about issues ranging from climate advocacy to mental health awareness, school reform to gender equality. Most importantly, we act.

Informed and Connected

With access to the digital tools and global platforms , today’s youths are more informed and connected than ever before. We can follow global developments in real time, learn from diverse perspective , and even organize for change from the palm of our hands.

However, the real transformation  does not take place entirely online. It takes place in classrooms, neighbourhoods, and local communities. Small, consistent actions at the grassroots lay the groundwork for long-term impact.

What Youth Need

We are doing our part, but we still need allies. . Decision makers must listen to young people’s voices not only during events or panels, but also in real-world decision-making settings. We need opportunity, sustained support , and mentorship to keep moving forward.

It is time society should stop underestimating youths and began investing in them.

Taking Little Actions to Make a Big Difference

The truth is that making a difference does not require the formation of a worldwide movement. The small, everyday actions.

  • Speak up on matters that are important to you.
  • Lead or join in school- or community-based projects.
  • Be considerate and helpful to others.
  • Keep learning, developing, and making a difference.

Final Thoughts

Waiting for your “time” is not what being young is all about. Now is the time to use your voice, your thoughts, and your energies. We contribute to the creation of society, not merely the environment in which we live.

So, keep speaking up. Keep showing up. Because when young people rise, the entire world rises with them.
