The Silent Battle Inside the Mind…..

BY PRASHNA MAHARJAN

There are battles in life that no one else can see. On the outside, everything may look calm and normal, but on the inside, there are storms that never truly settle. For someone living with OCD, it becomes a constant war with the mind that can rarely be seen. This silent struggle becomes a part of daily life and is often unnoticed and misunderstood by others.

OCD is not just about being obsessed with cleanliness or organization as most people believe. It is an unwanted thought that enters the mind without permission and settles there refusing to leave, creating self-doubt, anxiety, and fear. Even when everything is fine, the mind goes, “Are you sure?” To ease the anxiety and self-doubt, people go on repeating the same small actions again and again, trying to quiet the mind that rarely stays still. It can be really exhausting to live with that do not even feel like their own. Living with such thoughts can feel like being trapped in a loop that rarely allows rest. It feels as if your mind is going against you.

There are some days that feel heavier than others. There are moments when the mind feels overwhelmed. Simple tasks become stressful and small worries can grow into persistent concerns. Nights can feel longer when the mind refuses to be quiet, replaying the same thoughts again and again. Despite the internal chaos, continuing to move forward with strength often goes unnoticed.

Living with OCD teaches self-compassion and patience. It creates a deeper understanding of the silent struggles that others may carry within themselves. Most importantly, it teaches resilience: the quiet strength to keep on moving forward even when the mind feels heavy and uncertain. Growth does not always look dramatic; it is found in small victories, like facing fear.

To anyone silently fighting battles with their mind, it is important to remember that they are not alone. They are more than their intrusive thoughts, and those thoughts do not define their worth. Moving forward even with the silent battle within themselves is an act of courage and that courage becomes the strongest form of resilience a person can possess.
