Victory of faith in not giving up: A journey from “Ee Sala Kap Namdu” to history

BY: ASHWIN

For almost two decades, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) was a team that came very close to the mark but could not cross the finish line. Their journey was a story of repeated defeats, unfulfilled dreams and painful moments. But despite all this, millions of fans never lost their faith. Finally, on the night of June 3, 2025, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, that faith was rewarded when RCB won their first ever Indian Premier League (IPL) title.

Chapter 1: Long wait

Eighteen years is a very long time in any sport. For RCB fans, these years have been filled with hope, disappointment and a firm belief to never give up. The club had previously reached the final thrice in 2009, 2011 and 2016, but each time they were denied the title. However, the fans never gave up on the Kannada slogan “Ee Sala Kap Namdu”. It means,“This year the cup is ours.” Over time, it has become more than just a slogan but a symbol of unwavering faith.

Chapter 2:: The man who never left

The story of RCB is incomplete without Virat Kohli. He has worn the RCB jersey since the first IPL season in 2008 and has never chosen another team till date. He is the only player in IPL history who has represented the same franchise since the beginning of the competition. He gave his youth, his best playing career and his entire dedication to RCB, when he could have chosen other easy opportunities if he wanted to.

Virat Kohli looked emotional after the final. He openly said that he had dedicated his entire life and hard work to this team and sometimes he did not believe that this day would actually come. He clearly stated that he would remain an RCB player till the last day of his IPL career and his love and dedication to Bengaluru will never change. The true identity of RCB is that a player born in Delhi has given his heart and soul to another city.

Chapter 3: The thrill of the final

This victory was not easy. Batting first, RCB struggled on a difficult pitch and scored 190 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. Virat Kohli top-scored with 43 runs while captain Rajat Patidar added 26 runs. Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma also made important contributions towards the end.

Chasing the target, Punjab Kings made an aggressive start and scored 52 runs in the powerplay alone. The game seemed to be going in their favor. But at that time, Krunal Pandya played a decisive spell and took 2 wickets for 17 runs in 4 overs. This spell changed the direction of the game.

Punjab’s Shashank Singh played a courageous innings of 61 not out, but it was not enough to win the game. Punjab Kings were limited to 184 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs and RCB achieved a historic victory by 6 runs. These 6 runs were not just the difference between victory; they were the distance between eighteen years of waiting and an unforgettable celebration in the city of Bengaluru. Captain Rajat Patidar also said after the victory that Virat Kohli and RCB supporters deserved this title the most.

Chapter 4: The real meaning of “Ee Sala Kap Namdu”

“Ee Sala Kap Namdu” was initially just a hopeful announcement. Over the years, many made fun of this slogan, but it never lost its appeal. Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar had mentioned an interesting thing about the 2025 season. According to him, this time the slogan was not heard as much as before. Perhaps many had started considering it as a “bad omen”. When that pressure was removed, success came by itself. There is a deep message hidden in it. Belief does not always need to be expressed loudly. Sometimes the most powerful belief is to keep trying quietly.

Chapter 5: The meaning of this victory

This title belongs to all those supporters who never left their team even in difficult times. It belongs to every person who proudly wore the red jersey despite knowing that the season could end in disappointment. Above all, it is Virat Kohli, who chose to stay even when it would have been easy to leave. This victory sends a big message: Loyalty, patience and constant dedication will eventually pay off.  Success sometimes comes late, but its sweetness is even deeper when it comes at the right time.

Chapter 6: New Beginnings

Royal Challengers Bangalore are now IPL champions. The wait of eighteen years is finally over. The supporters of the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, the millions of RCB fans scattered across the world and the players who gave their all for this club can look back with pride today. They can understand that all those difficult years were not in vain; they were all chapters in one great story. That story, on the night of June 3, 2025, finally came to a happy ending, when the much-awaited trophy finally arrived home.
