Major Component: Digital violence, Digital safety.
Introduction
Digital access is an integral and accelerating part of modern life, yet it is a source of heightened risk and violence for young people across Nepal. ‘Through the Digital Lens’ is an initiative that aims to equip young people, with a focus on women, girls, and marginalized communities, with the knowledge and advocacy skills to promote digital safety and rights in their online and offline communities. This group faces significant challenges regarding digital safety due to harmful online narratives and a lack of training or safe spaces. By cascading knowledge through social media outreach, trained volunteers, and engaged content creators, the project seeks to improve digital safety practices among youth and community members alike. Additionally, the project will actively create platforms for dialogue and advocacy through safe-space Echo Verse sessions and influencer collaborations, working to ensure digital environments are safer and more respectful for all young people.
Major activity
- Social Media Outreach:
In today’s context of a digitalized world, social media works as a powerful tool to reach a larger audience within a limited span of time. Considering this, we advocate through Visible Impact’s social media platform on various aspects of digital rights and safety. The monthly podcasts and micro-video learning videos are being posted through Visible Impact’s social media.
- Echo Verse:
EchoVerse is conducted every month. In this activity, young people, including marginalized communities who are more prone to digital violence, are provided with a safe space for open dialogue where they share unique challenges they face in the digital world. The marginalized communities include LGBTQIA+, young women, Dalit communities, and People with Disabilities. These safe spaces enable youth to take leadership by taking ownership of the discussions, creating a sense of responsibility and agency in addressing digital violence.
Our Impact
8 Echo Verse safe-space dialogues have been conducted, engaging over 90+ young people, including women, LGBTQIA+, Dalit, and persons with disabilities, in conversations about digital violence.
Our social media outreach has reached over 1,500 people through podcasts and micro-learning videos on digital rights and safety.
